This is one of the largest hill forts of the country. This ancient capital of Mewar was proud of its massive stone structure built before 7th century. The fort has a rough fish shape and a staircase ascend for one kilometer. The main elements of this fort structure are towers, bridge, courtyards, Mirabai temple, Padmini Palace, Gaumukh Reservoir, KumbhaShyam temple, ShringarChauri temple and others.
The tourists stay back in the Chittorgarh Fort for tea and light and sound show. The show portraits the story of the fort from the beginning of 6th century; when the city of Chittaur was found. It follows the story of the fort being built, story of Queen Padmini and other interesting anecdotes. The show starts by 7 and ends by 8 pm. Later, tourists are taken back to the train for dinner and overnight sleep.
The region of Chittorgarh is very dry. The summer starts in March and ends in June. Summers are very hot, humid and dry. The summer temperature can reach up to 43.8 degree C. Winter starts in October and ends in February. This is one of the best times to visit the fort region. Monsoon starts in June and ends by August. Monsoon provides very less rainfall.
