Bharatpur

On the seventh day, Palace on Wheels takes a turn towards Bharatpur. This nature-abundant spot is quite famous for its collection of birds. Thanks to the natural habitat and welcoming climate, the birds from several parts of the country visit the Keoladeo National Park. This land is quite famous for safari to explore the colorful winged friends of the nature. Apart from the park, the city of Bharatpur is worth a journey with its historic vestiges, chaotic colorful culture and so on. On the seventh day, the Palace on Wheels’ travelers are taken on an early morning birdwatching trip to Bharatpur.

Palace on Wheels - Adventurous Journey to Keoladeo National Park

The train reaches Bharatpur early in the morning and the tourists are taken on a rickshaw safari in Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary by 6:30 in the morning. The early morning safari inside the park is the best as it is the best time to spot many birds, easily. This sanctuary holds more than 230 species of birds, 27 mammals and a few reptiles.

The rickshaw trip through Bharatpur national park would include the following activities:

  • A guided trip through specific routes of the sanctuary to spot as many birds as possible.
  • At the entrance of the park, there is a sunrise view point and it is the best place to click pictures.
  • There is a small gift center in the park entrance. You can find t-shirts, books, magnets, postcards and other wildlife related souvenirs.

Climate

Summer starts in March and ends in June. Spotting local birds is easier during this month. However, migration birds would be nowhere to be found. The monsoon starts in July and ends in September. This is the worst season to visit the park as spotting birds during rainfall is very hard. Winter is the right time. The place will be flocked with migrated and local birds. Winter starts in October and ends in February.

Cuisine

The Bharatpur cuisine is not very deviant from traditional Rajasthani cuisine. The dishes are heavily flavored with spices. Fresh ghee is used for preparing desserts in this cuisine. Top dishes to try here are gatte ki sabji, dal baati churma, pakodi wali kadhi, aloo kaji sabji, chicken tikka, tandoori dishes and others.
